Woody & Ted: "Burning Frustration"
Posted: Thursday March 1st, 2007 by

In a recent interview with Mark Millar, contributor to Marvel's popular "Civil War" series, Newsarama (a website dedicated to comics) inquired as to his current interests and non-comic work. He response was, "Like all my pals, the TV and movie people have come calling and even the computer game people (which is weird because games are for pedos and I have no interest)". No justification or citation of his source was given for his comments regarding video games.

If we give Millar the benefit of the doubt and convince ourselves that "pedos" is a reference to something else and not shorthand for "pedophiles" (or "kids"), we're still left with fact that he tossed out an anti-gamer sweeping generalization for no better reason than he has no interest in videogames. I guess it's possible that he has some proof that we're unaware of, an article, some research, a study based on a complex and solid analysis of a massive, truth-bearing survey... or maybe he's just slandering us for no better reason than to mark his territory.

I personally hate sweeping generalizations. I've never seen them do anything but cause problems, engender animosity, and apprently elicit headlines. But, that is an opinion on my part not an application of definition.

I can say with a degree of certainty that we gamers aren't all "pedos". And until such point as Millar explains himself or apologizes, he can bite my crank.

UPDATE: Mark Millar's Response [Thanks Solarfusion]
