Gaming News: "Questioning Credibility"
Posted: Monday September 15th, 2008 by

As I mentioned in the 9/8 comic writeup gamers had begun takin out their DRM frustrations on Spore's Amazon entry by saddling the game with a plethora of 1 star ratings. [more info] On the 12th all of those negative reviews disappeared and gamers lashed out again accusing Amazon of bowing to the wishes of EA. [more info] Amazon responded saying the disappearing reviews was merely a glitch. As of the time this writeup was posted all of the 1 star Spore reviews had been restored. Further reports indicate however that Amazon has since tightened up monitoring of Spore-related reviews.

We all know I'm a cynic. So it's hard for me to just accept that pressure from EA didn't motivate the "glitch" and subsequent review monitoring on Amazon's part. At this point I don't think it matters. The 2100+ one star ratings will be hard to overcome. But, the Amazon rating aside, Spore is quickly becoming the single most pirated game having already been downloaded over half a million times via BitTorrent. [more info] Spore is still selling very well though, so I don't think EA will get the point.

Meh, Rock Band 2 released yesterday, what do I care about Spore?

NOTE: The comic was written knowing full well Amazon had already corrected the "glitch" that erased all of the negative Spore reviews.
