Gaming News: "Zombies Still in a Mall"
Posted: Friday November 21st, 2008 by

Back in February the MKR Group, rights holder of George A. Romero's Dawn of the Dead, filed suit against Capcom claiming that Dead Rising, a zombie based video game, infringed upon their copyright and trademarks. Last month, Richard Seeborg, the judge presiding over the case, dismissed the suit stating that the MKR Group had failed to identify "any similarity between Dead Rising and any protected element of Dawn of the Dead. Rather, the few similarities MKR has alleged are driven by the wholly unprotectable concept of humans battling zombies in a mall during a zombie outbreak."

The zombie lover in me gets sad when I see producers of zombie content bickering. And I still doubt George has anything to do with this suit. Unless I miss my guess he'd probably applaud the game and enjoy the Reese's Peanut Butter Cup that is Dawn of the Dead and Dead Rising's relationship.

And now some honesty about this comic. This was the idea I was going with originally, then I got an interesting idea submission that sent me off working on it instead. Went to bed with only the sketch and some inking done only to realize that if I followed through with this idea it'd be late this afternoon before it was done. And thus the comic really wouldn't get seen. Weekends around here are slow. So, I stopped coloring and went back to my original idea. By that time it was already approaching noon... so I went back and grabbed artwork from when I first introduced this story. Not exactly sorry about that. Just wanted you to know what happened.
