Comic Con 2010: "Prevailing Sentiment"

A few days ago I got an email from my ad company asking if I was going to be running Comic Con content on the 22nd and 23rd. I said probably. The reason they asked is because they had advertisers who only want to advertise on sites talking about Comic Con. Well, I wasn't sold on the idea until they said Spartacus, which is a Starz show I love. (Thanks Netflix!)
But the fact that it's a Comic Con ad promoting the live chat for a TV show underpins the point we were trying to make in the comic. I'll be honest with you I can't remember the last time I heard actual comic related news come out of the big SDCC. Sure there's comic related movies and games being announced. But where's the news about actual comics? Am I just looking in the wrong place? Or is it that the San Diego Comic Con has fully embraced the idea that they are a "pop culture event" not just a comic book sideshow anymore?
I promise, if I ever go, I'll seek out comics at the Comic Con and document my adventure.
