Hero Forge: "The Power of Custom"
Posted: Tuesday May 19th, 2015 by

Let it never be said that I can not find ways to procrastinate myself into oblivion.

Backstory:
Our Sunday night gaming group plays a sci-fi themed offshoot of the D&D 5e ruleset. It's a long story that I won't get in to, but I call the campaign "the Scrubbers". We have five people at the table not including myself as the DM. They play an anthropomorphic, katana wielding, skateboard riding, eco-terrorist, space bear; a half-cybernetic, Borg-style werewolf; an Abe Sapien/Kaminoan fish lade that laughs like Fran Dressher; an acrobatic kender-like gecko that styles his look after MacGyver, including a feathered wig; and a Red Dwarf inspired formerly-living human, Hologram. To say finding miniatures to represent these guys is an understatement of the highest order.

Well, yesterday, someone on Facebook linked me to a customizer tool on the Hero Forge miniature site. You might remember the name; I pimped their Kickstarter a while back. At any rate, using several base body types, hair, clothing, items, poses, etc. you can make a completely custom figure, have it 3-D printed, and shipped to you. With a little effort and a few compromises, I was able to create the best facsimile of the Gecko I could have hoped for. I then did the other 4 Scrubbers, Woody, Ted, and the Anti-Dipshit Avenger. If only these things didn't cost $25 a pop. At least the tool is still really fun to play with though. And you can save your work, just in case you trip into a small pile of disposable cash sometime soon.
