GU Live FAQ ( Last Updated: June 18th, 2009 )
It seems like I get the same questions over and over again during the live feed so I figure I'd assemble
all the answers here to make it easier on folks.

What program is he using?
You'll have to be more specific. He's sketching, inking and coloring in
Adobe Photoshop CS.
He's capturing the stream using WebCamMax.
And streaming live using uStream.
Why does he turn off video before putting on the text bubbles?
Basically, this is his way of preserving the joke. So even though we watched the artwork
come together, we still have something to look forward to when the comic is posted the
next morning.
I can't see the stream and read chat without scrolling. What the hell?
Fitting everything on one page at GU is a bit tough. But, you can just long in to the official uStream
page here: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/gu_live.
How long does a feed usually last?
Woody stops the stream before putting text on the comic. So typically around
four hours. Though he usually leaves the music on until he exits the chat.
This music sucks! Why Woody? Why?
Woody's musical tastes are "ecclectic" and he sets his iPod to random. So, you could be listening
to Metallica one minute and the original cast recording of Phantom of the Opera next. Woody doesn't like
hearing folks whine about the music, because "you" can mute it at any time and listen to your own tunes.
Chat Questions
Okay, I'm here. Why can't I talk in the chat channel?
In order to side-step spammers, Woody has set up the chat so that you have to have a uStream account,
and be logged in, to talk. uStream accounts are free.
Why does Woody leave the chat everytime people start typing in colored text?
Woody works on one screen and has the stream/chat up on another. Whenever colored text goes scrolling past
it grabs his attention, distracting him from his work.
Can I be a chat moderator?
Woody is as picky about this as he is about appointing GU Forum moderators. He basically has to get to know
you via the chat first.
Art Questions
Why is he using a brown background?
White tends to make exact color a little harder to determine. And, Woody often uses white in his images.
So he picked a more neutral tone that he tends not to use when coloring the strip. Also, it's easier on
his eyes.
Is he using a mouse to color this?
No. Woody sketches, inks, and colors on a
Wacom Cintiq 21UX.
How long does this usually take to do the comic?
Depends on the complexity of the image. Woody usually just works until it's done. Though from sketching
to uploading the images it's usually around 4-5 hours.
