Gaming News: "Taking Notes"
Posted: Wednesday April 24th, 2019 by Woody

A few weeks ago we collectively lit up Bioware over a report regarding crunch time work requirements. This week it's Epic Games' turn, with a Polygon report from Colin Campbell spotlighting months of 70-100 hour weeks, intense pressure, contractor exploitation, and a "stay late and don't complain" mentality from higher-ups, a never ending update/patch cycle that results in a constant state of "crunch time", and on and on and on.

I'm picking at Bioware and Epic here, but this is ubiquitous in the industry. I've honestly never talked to someone that works at a game company that doesn't have a crunch time hell story to tell. That, high turnover rates, and moving back and forth across the country, is why I was never overly interested in working in the gaming industry. Well, those things and raw talent. You kinda need THAT to get your foot in the door... I hear.
