EverQuest: "For Sale by Uber"

Fires of Heaven was my first introduction to the concept of a "Raid Guild". I was simultaneously impressed by what they'd managed to accomplish, and put off by the notion of turning the GAME into a JOB. Everquest was a release for me, an escape from the trappings of everyday life. Why would anyone subject themselves to scheduled raids dates, with rigid attendance policies and meticulous record keeping for gear distribution?
