Throwaway Comic: "Non-Fungible Teds"
Posted: Saturday February 5th, 2022 by Woody

The first time I heard the term NFT (Non-Fungible Token) was in an episode of Corridor Crew where they're working with Beeple to understand his process and talk about the insane amount of money he made off of selling a string alphanumeric characters associated with specific artwork in something called a Blockchain. It sounded like an absolute scam to me.

It's been almost a year since I watched that video. I've learned much more about the whole process. So now I know it's a scam. I dislike everything about it. But with some of my webcomic compatriots ranting about NFT's I figured I'd hop on the bandwagon too.

So there you go. My entry into the space. Non-fungible Teds.

But, I'm not proud; I'll take your money. So, if you want them, I'll sell them to you. I'll even contextually frame it in a way that sounds like an NFT. But there's no blockchain; no associated cryptocurrency; no open ended investment scheme that promises something ludicrous like a NFTeds-based MMO. Hell I'll even do the one thing I absolutely shouldn't in an NFT scheme: I'll put your name -or a handle of your choosing- into the image you purchased. **shrugs** But you do so understanding, like all NFTs, that you don't actually own the work. You just own the alphanumeric string associated with it, randomly generated at the time of your purchase. It's just stored in a completely editable database instead of and append-only blockchain.

So... technically, the "token" is fungible. But the Ted isn't. He is, and always will be, truly unique.
