Woody & Ted: "Only Ted..."
Posted: Thursday June 9th, 2005 by

Arriving in Vegas, no matter how many times you've been, is always a little bit of a culture shock. I think it's seeing slot machines the second you walk out of the "de-planing" tunnel. That's probably not what it's called; but, I'm sure there is another equally ridiculous name they use for it. Sane folks just call it the walk way.

At any rate, getting a cab from the airport was kinda like standing in line for a roller coaster ride. Wait, no, actually it was exactly like waiting in line for a roller coaster ride. A long wait in a roped off line the length of the terminal that switched back on itself several times before you finally got to a surly guy in uniform that would, obviously, much rather be wrestling a hungry polar bear than standing there doing his job.

A $15 cab ride later, we're checking in. Luckily they didn't make us wait the three hours til their posted check-in time. They got us a room, the second it was cleaned and the cleaning ladies closed the door. Seriously, when we got to our room, they were opening the room right next to ours. That's one of the things I love about Vegas. The hotels really take care of you. Unlike the apathetic counter jockeys every where else in the world.

So, I guess I expected the room to be reasonably nice because it's the Hilton. But, what we got was a room big enough to have a seating area. In other words, it's nicer than I expected. It's not the Bellagio or the Mandalay Bay, but I'd consider staying here again.

At any rate, there's a banner on the side of the building with an 8 story tall picture of Barry Manilow smiling at nothing. Apparently he's playing here. And, like the comic suggests, so is Wayne Newton and ZZ Top. Honestly, I could care less, but I figure it's the kind of thing Ted would get excited about, even if he despised every one of the acts.

Oh, comedian David Brenner is here too. **shrugs**

So, this first day was just about "getting here". Hell, I even flew in First Class (I may never fly coach again). But, we did go to see La Cage at the Riviera. If Ted were there, he might well have been on a mission to get a date with the Britney Spears impersonator. I'll uhh... leave you guys to a google search, if you don't already know what La Cage is, to figure out where the humor value might be found in that particular scenario.

Tomorrow is the Summit. I'll cover everything I can. If grouping allows for it, I'll try to hit the other Summits (not just the EQ specific one) as well.

Now, a word on the comic. Photoshop failed on my laptop, and of course I didn't bring the discs to reinstall it. I thought I was going to have to inform you guys that there would be no comics until I got back. But then, I found Image Ready was lurking in the corner trying to avoid attention. Now it's not my preferred program for doing comic, but hey it seems to work. So yeah. I'll uhh... keep you guys apprised of the situation should anything change.
