For the "old" folks in the crowd ( October 24th, 2005 )
To cut straight to the point, it's a "NeverEnding Story" reference.

---

As frustrating as it can be at some points Shadow of the Colossus is an awesome game. Every colossus is a giant moving puzzle that you have to figure out to beat. There's no powerups, not stats, no alternate weapons. It's just you, your sword, your bow, a horse, and the colossus.

Lucky for you though, every colossus has a few weak points, fur for easy climbing handholds, and platforms for reasting your tired grip. And that's one of the beautiful aspects of the game. The longer you hold on trying to figure out what to do next, the closer you get to losing the strength needed to maintain your grip.

Another beautiful aspect of the game is that which inspired the comic. When you're up on the colossus, as it's moving, you can almost feel the wind rushing by you. It's great; tosses you right into the scale of the fight.

Now, when it comes to actually fighting the behemoths, I'm torn. I'm partial to the colossus. They don't seem to be doing any harm. Just wandering around, or sleeping, and along comes this little bastard with a short sword sticking it in their heads and such. But then again, when you manage to figure one out and kill it, the colossus falling is exhilirating.

Anyway, I love the game. It's a "must rent" kinda game, but I don't think you'd be upset if you purchased it outright.

And, at the end of this, if you don't know what "The NeverEnding Story" is... ***sighs** just go ahead and rent that too. You can probably keep it for a month for like a buck or something.
