Yesterday, after a bid to refute claims that Sony had been influenced by Nintendo's motion sensing technology, President of Sony Computer Entertainment's Worldwide Studios, Phil Harrison proclaimed that the Playstation 3, with it's Linux-based OS, would have enough processing power and more-than-just-gaming functionality that PCs would become "moot in the home". Using "the PlayStation 3 is a computer" as justification, Harrison has decided that "we do not need the PC."

Of all the idiotic tripe that has spilled forth from the mouths of overzealous company execs lately, declaring that the PS3 would make PCs unnecessary easily takes the cake. Mr. Harrison might as well start making up crap.
I can only hope that he was just headline-hunting and doesn't actually believe that a console, any console, will ever devalue PCs to the point that they become "moot".
