Woody & Ted: "Wait. Ted Said What?"
Posted: Tuesday May 12th, 2009 by

The Global Language Monitor is estimating that the one millionth word will be officially added to the english language this coming June 10th. Several British Newspapers (The Daily Telegraph, The Sun, The Independent, etc.) are speculating that "noob" will be that word. The Global Language Monitor recognizes a word after "they have been used 25,000 times by media outlets, social networking websites and in other public sources".

I've said many times that I'm a purist. So, you wouldn't have been surprised if I was the one that issued the diatribe in today's comic. But when Ted does it you get a better sense that something's up. His reasons are completely different from mine though. Being "a purist" I refuse to consider "noob" as an [official] word anymore than I would consider Bushisms (W. mangling words that are then repeated and reprinted) [to be official] words. Ted just doesn't want stuffed shirts using the same "words" he would. Kind of like how we 80's youths stopped using "radical" after President Reagan said it. Of course... he used it correctly. But, that didn't matter.

Now I'm certain people won't agree with my view of the official inclusion of "noob" as an english word. But, I'm okay with that. I prefer living in a bubble where I can convince myself I'm right anyway.
