World of Warcraft: "Boatloads"

After doing my dailies this morning, I got it into my head that I was going to finally camp the Black Tabby mini-pet. So, I hit up WarcraftPets to see what the recommended method of going about this would be. And, to my surprise, the method had changed from the last time I looked.
So cross-referencing info from WarcraftPets and WoWHead, I made my way to Hillsbrad Foothills to lay waste to mountains of Stormpike Engineers. WoWHead says the expected drop rate of the Black Tabby Carrier is .5%. WarcraftPets says I can expect the drop rate to be 1 in 8000. All I can tell you is that I killed hundreds with no luck.
I almost feel bad for them, dying in droves as they were. But, then I remind myself "most of them are gnomes" and I feel much better about the situation.
