Gaming News: "Schmuck"
Posted: Saturday April 16th, 2005 by

You know, being unoriginal is not an uncommon trait in the game industry. But when you've got a month long title like ohh... "Corporate vp of Worldwide Marketing and Publishing" there should atleast be a little bit of forward thinking creativity when it comes to marketing something as LARGE as the Xbox 360, Microsoft's next gen console.

So, as back story, Peter Moore, working for the Sega, was responsible for introducing the Dreamcast to US gamers and took the release info to MTV. Now, years later, he's taking the release of the Xbox 360 to... MTV. [ more info ] So, since he got a "tattoo" to show onlookers at last years E3 the release date of Halo 2. Thankfully it was fake, because well, the game was delayed. He would have looked like even more of a schmuck. So, I thought it might be funny if, like the MTV revisit, he revisited the "tattoo" idea.

Now, I don't want to talk for the entire gamer population because I KNOW there is some blurring of the line. But, for the most part I'm going to say that gamers are not MTV watchers. Oh we used to be. Back when we went to arcades to play games, and there was still a push to get our local cable provider to actually pick up MTV. It was rebellion against the establishment to a certain degree. "I want my MTV". Now, MTV IS the establishment. They've sold out our music for crap programming, faux-reality TV, intollerable VJs, and 3 minute music videos. And quite frankly, that's not the kind of thing I want to tarnish my beloved gaming industry.

So, feel free to disagree with me. I don't mind. And hey, maybe I'm wrong about the relationship between MTV and Gamers. I will be the first to apologize if someone gives me proof. But, until then, to Peter Moore, I say "you schmuck".
