Following an email discussion with 3D Realms president, Scott Miller, the Dallas Business Journal reported yesterday that 3D Realms had confirmed a late 2008 release date for the "highly anticipated" Duke Nukem Forever. 3D Realms' co-founder George Broussard then issued a statement rejecting the comments, explaining that the release date is still "when it's done".

Like the guy from Kotaku, Broussard's retraction rang a bit hollow to me. Unless I miss my guess, Miller forgot to tell the DBJ that the late 2008 release date info was an internal target and was in fact "off the record". It makes no difference really though. Even if the DNF was done, and 3D Realms was just waiting for the holidays to put the game on shelves, I wouldn't believe the projected release date. 3D Realms has managed to get our hopes up more than once. Development on the game is approaching it's 12th year now and I still haven't seen enough to convince me that this release date announcement slip isn't just more of the same.
Is it cynical of me not to believe the game is going to be released until I'm actually installing it on my computer? Nah! Let's just call it being prudent.
