Gaming News: "What He Said, I Think."

NFL broadcasting legend and former Super Bowl winning head coach of the Oakland Raiders, John Madden, has announced his reitrement yesterday (4/16). He will however continue to lend his name to EA Sports' ever-popular, licensed pro football sim: Madden NFL.

As I was digging up Madden quotes, to help guide his commentary in the comic, I found quite a few people that just didn't like his brand of football coverage. They seemed to hate him for the very reason I liked him. His remarks were often obvious and painfully rambling. But he wasn't in the booth to provide insightful, informative analysis, that was Al Michaels' job and Pat Summerall's job before him. Madden was there for color commentary. His job was to entertain us and fill the gaps between action with food-based flibbertygibbit.

Personally I found him amusing, and I'm certain there will be moments in the coming seasons that I actually miss him. Luckily for me, I also really like Chris Collingsworth who will be taking over John's position in the booth.

As for the game, I only played Madden football briefly in college with my dormmates and haven't touched it since. But, the game play doesn't really change from year to year so why should the title right?

Anyway, here's to you John. Happy retirement and have an extra Turducken for me.
