Flappy Bird: "Times Are Tough"
Posted: Monday February 10th, 2014 by

As of yesterday the runaway success that was "Flappy Bird" is no longer available for download via iTunes or the Google Marketplace. It seems for Dong Nguyen, the game's creator, $50,000 a day in ad revenue and gaming media interest is too much to deal with. In a tweet he let the world know that he would be removing title from app stores because he "could not take it anymore". I'm sure there are countless game developers weeping into their fists to dreaming for the kind of success Nguyen is giving up. [more info]

It should be noted that the game is still active for people that downloaded it before it was taken down. But those of us that missed it... well... we missed it. What does that mean? Well let's just say that right now devices with Flappy Birds installed on them are receiving insane bids via eBay. And eBay, for whatever reason keeps removing them. [more info] And, a facebook page called SaveFlappyBird claims to be in contact with Nguyen and say that he has claimed to bring the game back if enough people show interest. I'm just gonna go ahead and call bullshit on that one though. Nguyen seems genuinely uninterested in the relative celebrity Flappy Bird brought him.

I didn't get to play the game because I avoid "smart phones" like the plague. How about any of you? (Don't lie, I've seen some of your facebook rants. **grins**)

UPDATE
Nguyen has now told Forbes that he pulled the game to save us all from addiction, saying, "it happened to become an addictive product. I think it has become a problem. [more info] To solve that problem, it’s best to take down Flappy Bird." I think Nguyen might be a bit to uhmmm... unstable for this industry.

UPDATE 2
'Flappy Bird' may be gone but Sesame Workshop has our backs with 'Flappy Bert'.
ERNIE!
