Gaming News: "New Konami Code"
Posted: Wednesday April 29th, 2015 by

The news that Konami had decided to voluntarily delist themselves from the New York Stock Exchange rang in my ears as a little sad. But, with Hideo Kojima leaving and Konami cancelling Silent Hills, one can see a certain amount of writing on the walls. [more info]

Now, this voluntary delisting will save Konami an estimated $5 Million dollars in regulatory compliance costs. And, Konami is still trading stock in London and Tokyo. But cancelling Silent Hills? Ooof. Losing the mastermind behind Metal Gear Solid? Double Ooof. I think there are plenty of other game industry examples where cancelling a flag ship title was a death knell for the company involved. If you have nothing new to offer your customers, how do you dig yourself out of the hole? But, ultimately, if you don't have the money to finish the cost of development, and you've lost one of the super star designers, what exactly can you do?

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you Konami, but there's no way I'm holding my breath.
