Acclaim tanked back in 2004. But, apparently, they're back under new management. Their plan this go 'round is to offer free localized versions of Asian-based "casual" MMOGs.
Source: GameSpot [ more info ] So, how do you make money with a free MMOG? If you're Acclaim, you adopt an item-based pay model. Translation: you sell in-game items for cash. I know, I feel dirtier just having said it. It concerns me that Acclaim is resting its hopes on a business model that has not proven itself to be vaible here in the states.
