Disney announced today that they would be buying LucasFilms for $4.05 Billion. CEO and 100% share holder, George Lucas said, "It's now time for me to pass Star Wars on to a new generation of filmmakers".[more info]
For me, a very vocal critic of how George Lucas has handled the Star Wars franchise, this is great news. I just wish it happened in the late 90's before the cycle of true bastardization really started. But hey... you can only ear-punch a man so many times right? Even after his whiney "take my ball and go home" response to negative fan reactions to his films, I didn't think this day would come. Sure he's still considered a "creative consultant" for the 7th film, scheduled for 2015. My hope is that just means "yeah it was his IP. Now we're running with it. Don't worry. We got this."
