Artwork: "MIR Watercolor"

One of the things I prided myself on in college was my complete disregard for convention. And I've never really been one to limit myself to what was expected of a process. So when I hit my watercolor class, you knew things were going to take a turn toward the experimental. So yes, though it doesn't look like it, today's image IS watercolor.

I called it Mir, because, after it was done, it reminded me of the solar panels sticking off of the Russian space station. The process of making the image found me applying color to the paper directly from the tube rather than using water and a brush, and then scratching back into the color with an x-acto knife. Don't get me wrong though, I did use some water to lay down the basic colors before I attacked the image and started exploring. In case you were wondering, the teacher was completely surprised by my approach, but loved the willingness to find my own way of using the medium.

A bit more traditional in approach, but not by much, is Jacket. This was was an homage to the leather jacket I wore in highschool. I still have it in the closet somewhere. Sure it doesn't look much like a leather jacket, but the idea is there.

Now, there were occassions where I was forced to work with watercolor "as intended". Course requirement, prove that you can do, and all that blah blah blah. Unfortunately most of these were cleaned out by my family. I wonder why they left me with all the abstract ones. Hmm. **scratches chin** The only purely traditional example of watercolor I have is Boots & Fruits, a monochromatic value study. Ughhh, I already regret having linked it.
