It's probably pretty obvious from previous posts, that I really loved print making. It didn't matter what the process was. Though I openly admit I was terrible at Intaglio. So, when the school opened a new facility with a brand new print making department, I was all over it. And along with the new facility was new equipment, paving the way for a few new processes. One such new process was still in the experimental phase, but that didn't hold me back. Enter... Photo Intaglio.
The reason I was miserable at regular intalio was partially because I was too impatient to keep etching down to get nice deep blacks. Photo intaglio solved that in a single swipe. I would be sketching on a clear piece of plastic. The sketch would be used to make a direct exposure on an intaglio plate covered in a photosensitive material. That exposure would be used to etch the plate. Unfortunately, the teacher and I never quite got the process figured out and the photo intaglio plates started breaking down after only a few pulls. Meaning, the images would fade and consistancy was near impossible. Needless to say, I was sad.
Home was the first image I did using this method. It was a sketch based on a photo I'd taken of my pal Calhoun, posing as homeless man. I also used the photo to produce a litho image, but it's much less refined so I won't include it.
I also did a photo-intaglio self portrait. Unfortunately I was only able to pull one print on crappy paper before the plate completely broke down.
