Gaming News: "Agreed to What?"
Posted: Monday April 19th, 2010 by

I had zero intention of doing a comic based on the crap stunt GameStation, a UK-based chain of video game stores, pulled, whereby they added an "Immortal Soul Clause" to the terms and conditions one must accept to make purchases from their online store. [more info] But, today was parent/teacher conference day at theKid's school; and, I didn't have a good idea before we had to leave. So, I just rolled with it when we got home.

So, why did I have zero interest in doing a comic about it? I have a few reasons. First, the clause was added on April 1st. You guys know how I feel about April Fools news. Second, if we ignore the April Fools aspect of it, we're left with the idea that GameStation was trying to teacher their users a lesson about not fully reading the terms and conditions they are forced to agree to when making a purchase. Third, if there is such a thing as a soul, I don't believe it to be transferable.

The grumpy jackass in me looks at an action like this and sees inappropriate, unprofessional behavior. I don't care if it's a joke. And, I don't care that GameStation executives said they are not enforcing the "Immortal Soul Clause". It's is not the place of a business to try to teach their customers a lesson. Just let them buy the goods they're after and move on. Leave the headline whoring to popstars and politics.

Sorry. Rant off.
