Guitar Hero II: "Bark at the Moon"
Posted: Thursday April 12th, 2007 by

Microsoft, by way of Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb (director of Programming for Xbox Live), have announced the first downloadable song packs available for purchase for Guitar Hero II through their XBox Live service. Each pack includes three songs from the original Guitar Hero set list and costs 500 points ($6.25). Guitar Hero Track Pack 1 includes Bark at the Moon, Hey You, and Ace of Spades. Track Pack 2 includes Killer Queen, Take it Off, and Frankenstein. And Track Pack 3 includes Higher Ground, Infected, and Stellar. Purchasing the track packs allows these games to be played in the Guitar Hero II setting and gives you access to experience them through GH2 features such as the Practice mode.

Now, were I can see the potential enjoyment derived from experiencing Guitar Hero songs through the Guitar Hero II setting and features, I just can reconcile paying over $2 per track for songs I've already played innumerable times. That's $100 for all 48 songs. $100 for songs I got in the original game for $40.

I knew there were going to be songs released on XBox Live shortly after the release. As a matter of fact, it's why I was so looking forward to GH2 on the 360. But, I guess I was expecting new songs and not at $2.08 each. Here's to hoping someone* will get a clue and fix the downloadable content rates before plastic guitar-weilding, faux rockstars rebel and overthrow what we know as civilization.
[* All indications are that the high prices are Microsoft's doing.]
