Silent Hill: "The... Horror"

I stumbled across a fan made Silent Hill homage over at Kotaku this morning and amused myself at the thought that Ted would not be afraid of any monsters, but a guy with his shirt off? That would just freak his shit right out. [more info]
I've never really gotten into the Silent Hill series. I like to know what's going on. And that seems to be the exact opposite of Silent Hill's design. And rightly so; it's an atmospheric "horror" game. Not knowing is part of what makes it scarey, I think.
I don't really have a topic for discussion here. The comic is just the way my brain works. So, anyone that has played the series, please feel free to chime in. What's your "favorite"/scariest Silent Hill monster?
